About the farm

I'm Daniel, and I breed chickens on our property near Monbulk in the Dandenong Ranges. I've always loved birds that are beautiful to watch, but I also want them to be useful in a backyard: good hens, interesting eggs and a group of birds people genuinely enjoy keeping.

The chickens are part of how we care for the property. We use tractors and managed pasture where we can, compost bedding from the pens, and return that material to the soil. We're developing the orchard and pasture system over time, and I want the land to be healthier for having the chickens here.

I keep pure breeds and breed a few carefully planned crosses, especially where a mating can help us identify pullets at hatch. I'm happy to explain which birds are available, what I've seen in my own breeding groups and what I'm still testing. My hope is that more families find hens they love keeping and enjoy producing some of their own eggs.
